Mixed Chicks Product Review

Hello all!!!
I'm back to do a product review on Mixed Chicks! Now I've made posts on products that I make that I LOVE to use and usually work better than the products I buy, they're also cheaper! I was asked to do a review on Mixed Chicks because when I first began my journey to natural-ness, I LIVED off of Mixed Chicks! I absolutely LOVED their products because they defined my curls as I was impatient to wait as see how my hair would curl. I used their Gentle Clarifying Shampoo, De-tangling Deep Conditioner and their Leave-in conditioner, the leave-in being my favorite.Their products left my hair full of moisture and my curls loved it! The shampoo wasn't anything special to me but the deep conditioner left my hair silky soft and the leave-in moisturized my hair everyday. When I first began my natural journey, I thought I had to use everything in any given product line (as I now know to use whatever works the best). I also did the same thing with Kinky Curly's line. To this day I would buy Mixed Chicks' leave-in and deep conditioner if I was in a bind and didn't have any ingredients to make my own products. The only thing that turned me off about their products were the prices; the shampoo (10oz) was $11.99, the deep conditioner  (8oz) was $10.99 and the leave-in (10oz) was $16.99. The prices began to be a little much because the budget of a college student is near to non-existent lol! Luckily there was a beauty supply store near my (Angie's Beauty Supply in Austell, GA) that sold Mixed Chicks' whole line and I didn't have to pay for shipping, the also offered a kit that came with the shampoo, deep conditioner, leave-in and gloss and shine hair silk ($11.99 for 1.7 oz) for $50, free of the shipping charges. DevaCurl Review!!!!!!!!

Hello people!!! It's closing in on Christmas and I just decided to do a quick review on DevaCurl products!

So my mother is a master cosmetologist and I am apprenticing under her in her BRAND NEW salon! This is a perk that allows me to shop in the professional products stores! I've tried just about every shampoo out there and my fav is def DevaCurl!

I recently (around a month ago) purchased DevaCurl No-Poo shampoo, DevaCurl One Condition and DevaCurl Arc AnGEL.

To start, I washed my hair with the No-Poo shampoo, I HATE shampoo that lathers, it strips my hair and makes it extremely hard and dry and I need moisture seeing as how I have eczema in my scalp. I first noticed the tingly sensation of the shampoo! It is a very mildly scented shampoo that leaves my hair AMAZINGLY SOFT! It's even mild enough to use everyday lol, in fact I do use it everyday during summer months!

After I rinsed out the shampoo (that I only had to use once! No repeating means more product lol), I applied the One Condtion. I LOVE the fact that the whole line has one major conditioner! So I applied the conditioner which felt really weird. I automatically hated it, but as soon as I rinsed it out I fell in love! It left my hair feeling like BUTTA lol

So usually after this I would apply a leave-in and Curls Whipped Cream (My ABSOLUTE FAV PRODUCT!) but I decided to try the Arc AnGEL, this I hated lol, my hair needs moisture and this made my hair extremely sticky and stiff so i rinsed it out and applied my Curls lol

All in all I LOVE DevaCurl and will continue to use it! I has knocked Miss Jessie's and Kinky Curly out of product cabinet lol

Flat Two Strand Twists

Hello again! I have a style that I absolutely adore and is easy and quick to complete and dry! So many people have heard of flat twists and I was highly skeptical because I figured it would take forever AND it wouldn't last, to my surprise, my flat twists last longer than my bantu knots or twist outs! Go figure!

1. To begin, I wash/ co-wash my hair and deep condition it.
2. I apply my leave-in conditioner and apply my product of choice for twisting. NOTE: Using a butter-based product will result in a twist out with a loose hold, I always use a gel like Eco Styler or KCCC.
3. I part my hair on either side or down the middle, depending on how I want my hair to lay when I take it out.
4. I part my hair with a rat tail comb, spritz with water and begin twisting. To twist, grasp two pieces of hair and begin to twist, picking up hair as you go, make sure the hair is tight and lays flat to the head.
5. When I get to the ends, I place an end paper on the end and wrap around a perm rod but this is optional.
6. To dry quicker, I sit under a a hard bonnet dryer, but for a more natural look let your hair air dry.
7. I usually let my hair stay in twists until I'm going somewhere.
8. To take out, apply a small amount of olive oil (or any oil of your choice) to your hands and take out the twist slowly, starting at the bottom, working your way up.
9. You have achieved your flat twist out! To stretch your hair, you can take a blow dryer, set on low heat, and place at the scalp and slightly pull your  hair.
10. ENJOY!

For maintenance, I sleep on a satin pillowcase and spritz with olive oil or a leave-in conditioner.

This is my typical regimen when I to protective hairstyles (bantu knots, twist outs)...I alternate between Curls Whipped Cream and Eco Styler Gel.

When I flat iron my hair, I use this as a heat protectant.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard vs. Eco Styler Gel

I've recently ran into a young lady that recommended using Eco Styler Gel for my twist outs and bantu knots, she stated that I would have better hold. Of course, I ran out that day to my local beauty supply store [which is beginning to stock more and more natural products!!!] to buy some! The very first thing I noticed was the price, $1.99 for a 16 oz jar!!! MAJOR difference seeing how KCCC is $17 plus shipping and handling for an 8 oz jar. *though price shouldn't be the main factor on maintaining healthy hair, it does make a difference* After returning home, I quickly co-washed my hair [I'm always eager when I get new products lol], applied my leave-in conditioner [a mixture of raw shea butter, olive oil, tea tree oil, conditioner and distilled water], distributed the Eco Styler throughout my hair, (I also use the same method with KCCC) and styled my hair in bantu knots (which I let air dry). I noticed my hair was WAY more voluminous and manageable! KCCC always leaves me with a crunchy feeling and Eco Styler left my hair so soft! I must say I love both products but I'd much rather use Eco Styler because of the price and the fact that it's a great 'wash and go' product!
